Delphos has offered , for the last 25 years, a College Scholarship to its in-house associates. This month, the company has opened for registrations for the second semester. The program has contributed to the education of said in-house associates in the career they wish to follow, independently of their area of work in the company. The only criterion for granting a scholarship is that the professional has already taken at least one period of the course, as the scholarship is calculated on the average of the student’s grades. The benefit can reach 90%of the tuition of the chosen course.
The incentive dates back to one of the company’s founders, Jayme da Silva Menezes. “Having had an infancy of short money , it was thanks to scholarships which he could complete his junior high school studies at one of the best schools of Brazil, these being studies which prepared him for senior high school and for the Actuarial Sciences course at UFRJ”, tells his son and current Delphos’ president, Eduardo Menezes.
“As he recognized that he owed his success to a scholarship, Jayme started to sponsor the studies of the people who sought his help, until he decided to implement the program at the company”, Eduardo Menezes carries on. He deems the initiative as basic to Delphos’ history of success. “In addition to helping people, it also fostered company growth”, he says, stating thet 13 coordinators and managers at Delphos have been scholarship holders, and that 30% of the leaders in the current company staff had the opportunity of graduating because of the program.
Delphos’ commercial and marketing director, Elisabete Prado, highlights other points from this company practice: “In-house associates feel more prestige and security, as they understand that the company makes a significant investment and a relevant input of knowledge in their professional careers. Thus, they also reach managerial and leadership positions, and become basic to company development”, states Director Prado.
