In Brazil, only 22% of the population follows the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation when the issue comprises physical exercise. The institution considers appropriate a time of 75 to 105 minutes of intense or moderate exercise per week.The impact of this practice –or lack thereof–have reached the business world :a professional’s productivity is directly linked to his or her physical in mental state.
Thinking of this, Delphos, in 2003, created its own Life Quality Program (LQP). This year, the program turns 15 years in operation with notable results . More than 400 athletes have already gone through Delphos’ tents during races, one of the main sports encouraged by the program. “We have already had teams of 260 athletes registered in a single event. The families and friends of our in-house associates have attended in large numbers ” says the coordinator of Persons, Cristina Cupello. She says that cases of diabetes and high cholesterol levels have had proven improvement following the beginning of sports practice;athletes who discovered serious heart pathologies and cured themselves; even in-house associates suffering from depression and who involved themselves in the practice of sports and participation in races have found a new motivation in life .
As from the Program, Delphos in-house associates’ performance has visibly improved.”When health improves, disposition and energy serve as boosters to productivity increase”, evaluates Cristina Cupello.
Another positive feature is that sport integrates. Information exchange between the different company areas has become much more effective. To Cristina Cupello, improvement in communication brings forth a more harmonious environment, thereby ensuring better performance.
Integration among in-house associates and families has strenghtened the bonds of friendship outside the company, by enlarging the prospects of people ‘s social and affective life.” This is a virtuous circle, as one encourages persons to do sports”. Delphos’ LQP has ,therefore, created a concern with a preventive health culture .
Currently, Delphos’ team relies on approximately 60 in-house athletes, in addition to former in-house associates who have acquired the habit of doing sports and kept on doing so. Current program comprises 12 yearly races, including two half marathons, one full marathon and others of 5 km to 15 km. “In these 15 years , we have taken part in at least 180 events”, states the coordinator.
